Attic Conversion in Berlin-Zehlendorf 15. December 2008

Two uninhabitable mini-apartments in the attic of this 19th Century  multi-family residence in a popular Berlin-Zehlendorf neighbourhood were combined to create a generous spaciousness for this new penthouse  apartment. Raising the garden-side eave line allowed creation of a French-style window across the entire living/dining room. that allows an unimpeded view of the historic lime trees in the extensive gardens on the site. A previously unused flat roof was transformed into an open balcony with direct access to the neighbouring open kitchen space. The main bedroom and a flexible-use office/bedroom offer two quiet spaces under the expressive pitched roof planes. Within a week of completion a new tenant was found, and the once decrepit lofts filled with vital new life after years of neglect.
